I moved to MN from MD in 2022 after spending many years using my BFA in Graphic Design for marketing to pursue a more focused path toward traditional media. I have always enjoyed drawing and recently began painting. Relocating to a "slower" part of the country has given me an opportunity to take the time I need to focus on exploring different ways to interpret my interests and share them with the world. My studio is my favorite place in my home, which I share with my husband, our toddler, and two dogs.

My acrylic paintings and colored pencil drawings combine familiar central subjects with a touch of the unexpected. I like to add color and pattern or decorative flourishes that do not occur naturally with the subject to draw the viewer in. Perhaps you should linger a bit longer to make sure you aren't missing something? Maybe you've never taken a close look at the pattern of that animal's skin?

To create the compositions, I select a subject with intriguing patterns or shapes and digitally add complementary elements to the scene based on color, size, and shape. When a design is complete, I transfer it to paper or canvas with a rough sketch and then complete the final piece with acrylic paints or colored pencil. Once the piece is complete, I seal it with varnish and add backing material and hanging hardware by hand. I create these pieces to explore the beauty of our natural world and to invite the viewer to consider relationships of subjects, patterns, or colors that would not interact in their natural states.
